Broken Elf
Broken Elf, directed by Robert Ciesla, is a portrait of Jukka, a young man who has withdrawn from the outside world. He spends his time working feverishly on an occult operation which he hopes will release him from Huntington's disease, a rare and fatal neurological disorder. The movie features footage and other material gathered during a four
year period (2003-2007). It documents the difficult journey of the protagonist from mystical idealism to the edge of sanity.
The 28-year old tells his tale of coping with Huntington's, having conquered alcoholism through most unusual means some years ago.
The protagonist is immersed in a fantasy-world in which he is an elf among mortals. He is drawn to mysticism and has integrated it deeply in his life, spending most of his time within an apartment plastered with pictures of fairies and Joan of Arc. To this man-turned-elf, magic wands, sacred oils, pentagrams and going through trash bins for food are everyday affairs.
