Water is our element
Water is our element

If water had memory, this water would remember people’s joy when the water supply restrictions were over. The Yovkovtsi dam gathered the gratitude of the citizens who, until then were suffering with only two hours of running water a day. The power and the beauty of the Elena Balkan, the serenity of the sky and the magic of the healing herbs endue the dam water with that unique zest, which makes it highly desirable for drinking.
In the humble number of articles, titles vary from “Sea in the Elena Balkan” to “Spring flock on elevation 333” where the builders compare the water-catching tower to the Eiffel tower creation and the playful Veselina river was said to be “tamed” as if in a Shakespeare’s play.
In general, the word “reservoir” sounds too modest to describe the scale of construction which is why it is often called a – water- power station – a station where water is not locked with nine keys like the dragon in the fairytales was, but provided to the people. However, left by their few inhabitants and locked beneath the water forever, remain the Yovkovtsi, Krastevtsi, Karadzovtsi and Manovtsi neighbourhoods and a Tolstoyist settlement. As if they never existed. For water is the most flexible material in Nature – it assumes the shape and pattern of the space it fills. Here it also assumed the goodness of the people who used to live here.
